Myopia Prevention and Control Awareness Month | Building a Network for Myopia Prevention and Control: Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital Safeguards Campus Eye Health with Professional Expertise

DATE:2026-03-16   HITS:79

In March 2026, coinciding with the 12th National Myopia Prevention and Control Awareness Month, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital actively responded to the national call for myopia prevention and control among children and adolescents. Leveraging the professional medical expertise of its “Myopia Prevention and Control Master’s and Doctoral Expert Group” and centering on the principle of “emphasizing behavioral intervention and integrating it into daily life,” the hospital launched a series of public welfare eye health activities in multiple schools across Dongguan. From deepening hospital-school collaboration to implementing full-cycle myopia management, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital has woven a dense network of myopia prevention and control in schools through systematic and professional initiatives. By comprehensively safeguarding the eye health of teachers and students, the hospital demonstrates the responsibility and commitment of a leading force in regional myopia prevention and control.

Bringing Professional Expertise to Schools: Elevating Medical-School Collaboration

The key to myopia prevention and control lies in the dissemination of professional knowledge and the regular extension of medical resources to schools. Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital delivers high-quality ophthalmic medical resources directly to schools, making eye care education an essential part of the new school term. On March 9, the hospital visited Dongcheng Qiyuan School in Dongguan, where it held a special “First Lesson of the New School Year” on eye care for teachers and students in the school’s auditorium. Led by Dr. Liu Yue, a member of the “Myopia Prevention and Control Master’s and Doctoral Physician Team,” the event was standing-room only.

During the event, Dr. Liu Yue was officially appointed as the Vice Principal for Health and Hygiene at Dongcheng Qiyuan School. This appointment ensures that professional ophthalmic resources are deeply and routinely integrated into the school’s daily health education system, providing a solid professional foundation for campus health and hygiene initiatives.

In fact, promoting “hospital-school collaboration” has become a routine part of Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital’s operations. In recent years, the hospital has dispatched several key physicians—including Fu Chengbin, Huang Hehua, Liu Qi, Yang Shuxian, Liu Yue, and Liu Jiannan—to serve as vice principals for health and hygiene at various primary and secondary schools. Leveraging a comprehensive eye health service system and a professional medical team, they regularly conduct a diverse range of activities, such as science popularization lectures, vision screenings, staff care programs, and educational field trips, to comprehensively enhance the eye health awareness and protective capabilities of both teachers and students.

While focusing on the prevention and control of myopia among children and adolescents, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital has also turned its attention to the dedicated teachers working on the front lines of education. At the event held at Dongcheng Qiyuan School, the hospital simultaneously launched the “Candlelight Project,” an eye health care initiative for teachers, providing them with professional eye examinations and one-on-one consultation services. This initiative has enriched the scope of the “Eye Health in Schools” campaign, achieving dual protection for the eye health of both teachers and students on campus and fostering a two-way exchange of eye health care within the school community.

Systematic Prevention and Control Builds a Defense Line; Deep Commitment to Myopia Prevention and Control Demonstrates Responsibility

For many years, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital has remained steadfast in its social responsibility. By fully leveraging the expertise of its “Myopia Prevention and Control Master’s and Doctoral Expert Team,” the hospital has continuously dedicated itself to the field of myopia prevention and control among children and adolescents, promoting the “Eye Health in Schools” series of public welfare activities on a regular and large-scale basis. The hospital’s outreach extends to numerous primary and secondary schools as well as kindergartens across Dongguan. Each year, it provides professional services—including vision screenings, health education, and eye care guidance—to over 260,000 people. By successfully identifying and intervening in a large number of potential vision issues, the hospital has effectively delayed the onset and progression of myopia among adolescents. Through these concrete actions, it has improved the overall eye health of Dongguan’s children and adolescents, yielding significant social benefits.

On March 11, Dr. Yang Zhengfei, a core member of the “Myopia Prevention and Control Master’s and Doctoral Expert Group,” led a team to Hongmei Central Primary School. In collaboration with the school administration, they held a launch ceremony for the myopia prevention and control intervention project, conducted vision screenings for all students, established personalized eye health records, and provided frontline teachers with professional eye examinations and guidance on dry eye prevention. This initiative, based on a new model of medical-school collaboration, simultaneously implemented myopia prevention and control alongside health care for teachers, thereby establishing a robust professional defense for eye health efforts in Hongmei Town’s schools.

Through years of experience in myopia prevention and control, the hospital has consistently prioritized technology as the cornerstone of its approach, developing a comprehensive, full-cycle solution that spans “prevention—control—treatment.” We tailor myopia management plans to the specific needs of children and adolescents: for those who have not yet developed myopia, we provide early eye health management; for those who have, we employ scientific education and personalized corrective interventions to comprehensively slow the progression of myopia.

Multi-Pronged Approach to Promote Awareness: Myopia Prevention and Control Month Campaign Fully Underway

During the 2026 National Myopia Prevention and Control Awareness Month, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital’s myopia prevention and control initiatives continued to gain momentum and expand across multiple fronts. On March 2, the hospital’s professional medical team participated in the back-to-school carnival at Dongcheng Qifeng School, providing vision screenings and dry eye SPA mist therapy experiences for teachers and students. Thanks to its high-quality service and professional expertise, the hospital was recognized by the school as an “Outstanding Partner.”

During the spring semester of 2026, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital will dispatch teams specializing in myopia prevention and control for adolescents to conduct vision health screenings in schools across Dongcheng, Daling Mountain, Hongmei, Zhongtang, and other areas, reaching more than 140,000 students. At the same time, the hospital plans to organize over a hundred public education events, including campus lectures on myopia prevention and control, educational stage plays, and parent-child eye care workshops, to promote eye health knowledge in ways that are more engaging and relatable to young people.

Furthermore, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital continues to innovate in its science communication approaches, creating diverse signature outreach programs such as eye health study camps, the 5P Parent-Child Eye Care Games, science-themed stage play tours, and two-hour outdoor myopia prevention activities. These initiatives bring myopia prevention knowledge out of the classroom and into the home, providing professional vision health guidance to young people and their families while fostering a city-wide culture of eye care and protection.

The visual health of children and adolescents is crucial to the future of the nation and its people. Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital stated that it will continue to innovate in science communication methods and improve service quality, fully leveraging its professional strengths as a leading regional ophthalmic medical institution. By collaborating with schools, families, and all sectors of society, the hospital aims to continuously strengthen the myopia prevention and control network for children and adolescents, driving these efforts to greater depth and effectiveness. At the same time, the hospital calls on the entire society to take collective action, place high importance on vision screening in schools, and pay close attention to children’s eye health. By starting with small daily habits, we can guide children to develop good eye care routines, increase outdoor activities and exercise, and ensure that every child can enjoy a bright and clear life.
