Breaking News!
On January 22, the Dongguan Municipal Health Bureau issued the “Notice from the Office of the Dongguan Municipal Health Bureau on Announcing the Results of the 2025 Evaluation and 2021 Re-evaluation of Dongguan's Key (Specialty) Clinical Departments.” Following rigorous evaluation and multiple rounds of assessment by the Bureau, the Ophthalmology Department of Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital has been officially designated as a Municipal-Level Clinical Key Specialty in Dongguan! This recognition stems from its solid disciplinary foundation, cutting-edge technical capabilities, robust talent pool, and significant societal value.
This honor not only signifies authoritative acknowledgment of the hospital's ophthalmology achievements but also marks a major milestone in its eleven-year journey of dedicated, high-quality development.
Since establishing its presence in Dongguan in August 2014, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital has evolved over eleven years into a large-scale tertiary specialized ophthalmic hospital integrating medical services, teaching, research, and academic activities. Through its exceptional medical expertise and strong sense of social responsibility, the hospital has taken root in Dongguan, quietly contributing to the community. It has earned the full trust and widespread acclaim of governments at all levels, various sectors of society, and the general public.

Strength Builds Benchmarks, Specialty Development Yields Abundant Results
As a leading force in Dongguan's ophthalmology field, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital has consistently prioritized discipline development since being recognized as a “Dongguan City Clinical Specialty” in 2017. It has continuously deepened its expertise in ophthalmic diagnosis, treatment, and scientific innovation, maintaining a leading position in comprehensive vision care within the industry.
The hospital consistently ranks 7th among 96 ophthalmic hospitals in Guangdong Province for its DRG capability index and maintains 9th place for overall DRG weighting. Its comprehensive strength consistently places it among the top ten hospitals nationwide within the Aier Eye Hospital Group, with certain subspecialties ranking among the top two.
A Robust Talent Pipeline: Strengthening Foundations Through Recruitment and Cultivation
Adhering to a “talent-driven hospital” strategy, the hospital has assembled a professional team led by President Liu Fei, Directors Wang Hu, Ye Jianzhang, Chen Xiaobei, Tan Yongchang, Deng Jiangwen, and Fu Chengbin. This team includes 6 senior-level experts, 14 associate senior-level experts, 2 PhDs, and 17 master's degree holders. Ophthalmologists with master's degrees or higher account for 48% of the team. Multiple members hold key positions in provincial and municipal ophthalmology societies, forming a well-balanced high-level talent pipeline spanning senior, mid-career, and young professionals. This robust foundation ensures excellence in medical care and technological innovation.
Technology Leads the Way, Filling Gaps to Benefit People's Livelihood
The hospital actively aligns with international standards, continuously introducing and implementing cutting-edge technologies. It pioneered several procedures in Dongguan, including robotic SMILE pro 800 surgery, domestically produced Longjing® PR intraocular lens implantation, 3D-guided cataract surgery, ICL lens implantation, femtosecond laser-assisted corneal transplantation, and corneal cross-linking—many of which filled local gaps.
The hospital has established six comprehensive specialties: Optometry & Pediatric Ophthalmology, Refractive Surgery, Cataract Surgery, Cornea & Ocular Surface, Retina & Ocular Trauma, and Glaucoma. These cover the full spectrum of ophthalmic care across all life stages, with particular strengths in complex vitreoretinal surgery and corneal endothelial transplantation. This strengthens the hospital's commitment to ensuring “no serious eye disease requires treatment outside Dongguan.”
Robust Scientific Innovation with Integrated Medical, Teaching, and Research Development
Over the past five years, the hospital secured one provincial-level Natural Science Foundation grant, eight municipal-level research projects, published 27 academic papers (including 7 SCI-indexed articles), and obtained eight national utility model patents. Notable achievements include the successful commercialization of the “Adjustable Prone Positioning Bed with Vision Slots” and the " Novel Intraocular Lens," among others, have been successfully commercialized. Multiple technologies have reached advanced domestic standards, demonstrating the hospital's deep research foundation and innovative capabilities.
The hospital also serves as a designated center for cataract restoration surgery, a national cross-province medical treatment facility, and a council member of the National Ophthalmic Alliance. It has established platforms for complex case consultations, diagnostic and treatment bases, and surgical skills training rooms, deepening the integrated development of medical care, education, and research.
Comprehensive Service Network, Convenient Care Everywhere
The hospital has established a multi-tiered medical service network comprising “one main hospital, two branch hospitals, and two outpatient clinics” (Dongcheng Main Hospital, Humen Branch Hospital, Nancheng Aier Excellence Eye Hospital, and Dongkeng Outpatient Clinic). This creates a citywide “30-minute eye health service circle,” providing residents with comprehensive, multi-level, convenient, and efficient ophthalmic care.
Guarding Vision with Commitment, Embracing Social Responsibility
While enhancing medical capabilities, the hospital steadfastly upholds its mission: “Ensuring everyone, regardless of wealth, has access to eye health.” It actively fulfills social responsibilities.
Frontline Community Service
The hospital has established medical alliances with 17 community health service centers across the city, facilitating the flow of high-quality resources to grassroots levels. Ten physicians have been appointed as “Vice Principals for Health Education,” actively promoting myopia prevention programs in schools. Designated as a “Dongguan Science Popularization Education Base,” the hospital benefits over 30,000 citizens annually. It conducts free school-based vision screenings each year, establishes student vision health records, and provides data support for public policy development.
Demonstrating Responsibility Through Targeted Assistance
Since 2018, the hospital has dispatched four medical teams to support the General Hospital of Tumushuk City in Xinjiang's Third Division, performing 658 free cataract surgeries to restore vision. It established an ophthalmology alliance with Songtao County People's Hospital in Guizhou, sending six expert teams to promote advanced techniques like the “double-hook extraction” cataract surgery. Through “online + offline” academic activities, the hospital enhances the self-sustaining medical capacity of supported regions.
In 2025, the hospital launched the “Guard Your Eyes, Brighten Your Future” series of public welfare projects, extending its reach beyond multiple primary and secondary schools and communities within the city to Xin Feng County in Shaoguan. These initiatives served over 500 families and more than 200 children in need, deepening the “Dongguan-Shaoguan collaboration.”
