Why can high myopia be entangled with it?

DATE:2025-04-03   HITS:616

If you take off your glasses and blur them, it must be myopia deepening? Many people are in a hurry to change glasses with a higher height, and as a result, they fall into a vicious circle of 'unable to see clearly - changing glasses - soaring power'. As everyone knows, behind the continuous decline in vision, there may be a more serious problem than myopia.

Do you know?

High myopia and decreased vision may be caused by glaucoma

High myopia is a high-risk factor for primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), and due to the similarity of optic neuropathy caused by the two, it is easy to overlook the presence of glaucoma and lead to misdiagnosis. Outpatient data show that most patients with high myopia do not know that they have glaucoma, and some patients with glaucoma combined with high myopia cannot be diagnosed and treated in time.

Why can high myopia and glaucoma be "entangled" together?

How do we respond?

High myopia and glaucoma - the cutting is constant, and the reason is still confused

The survey showed that 6%~29% of POAG patients had myopia, and long-term follow-up for myopia found that 8%~10% developed glaucoma, of which POAG was the main one.

High myopia refers to myopic people with myopia > 600 degrees or an axial > of 26 mm, and the probability of suffering from POAG in this group is 7.15 times that of the normal population.

In the early stage of glaucoma, mild eye swelling and headache, foggy vision during the day (fog vision), and colorful apertures or halos appear when looking at lights at night, like a rainbow (rainbow vision); It is painless, the visual field defect is not obvious, and the visual field defect in both eyes usually does not occur in the same location, so it is easy to be overlooked by the patient and early diagnosis is difficult.

High myopia itself causes many fundus changes, which may mask some of the clinical manifestations of glaucoma and make glaucoma diagnosis difficult.

For myopic people, especially those with high myopia, early screening of glaucoma is extremely important, and it is generally recommended to undergo a special ophthalmic examination once every 1-2 years. Especially for people with high myopia, in addition to screening for fundus lesions, they should also monitor intraocular pressure and visual field examination early and regularly, and record and archive them so that they can be compared before and after, long-term follow-up, detect glaucoma early, and achieve "timely stop loss".

Note: If adolescents grow too fast every year (more than 100 degrees), they need to be highly vigilant whether they have POAG and should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.

For myopia, especially for people with high myopia

More attention should be paid to the prevention of glaucoma, what should be done?

1. Avoid using computers or mobile phones for a long time, especially not in a dim environment for a long time.

2. Eat foods rich in vitamins A, C and E, such as vegetables and fruits.

3. Get enough sleep.

4. Regular exercise can promote good health and reduce the risk of glaucoma.

Glaucoma is easily misdiagnosed as myopia, and people with high myopia are also more susceptible to glaucoma. For these high-risk groups, early prevention and screening, early detection, and early treatment should be done to curb the visual damage caused by glaucoma in time.
