Like the sea affectionate, like a mountain of high hope

Thousands of miles away to aid Xinjiang, the two hearts are the same

This scene is a picture taken affectionately by Liu Fei, captain of the Dongguan medical team and general president of Aier Ophthalmology Dongguan Region, at Yong'an Lake in Tumshuk City, Xinjiang on his way back to Dongguan after completing the task of aiding Xinjiang in 2024.

"Happy birthday, great-grandma! The doctor has done the operation, just wake up your eyes tomorrow. At 22 o'clock on August 26, a warm scene occurred at the Tumushuk General Hospital of the Third Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, Zhou Xiuying, who had just undergone cataract surgery, celebrated her 83rd birthday, and her 9-year-old great-grandson sent her birthday wishes. On this day, Zhou Xiuying bid farewell to her 82-year-old self and also bid farewell to the troubles of cataracts for more than 10 years.

It is understood that cataract is a painless disease of cloudy intraocular lens, and the cloudy lens will block the entry of light, resulting in unclear vision. Missing the best time for treatment can lead to complications that can lead to irreversible vision damage or even blindness.

Affected by strong ultraviolet rays and long sunshine hours, the high incidence of cataracts in Kashgar has become the most important blinding eye disease in the local area. In the past, Tumushuk City of the Third Division was subject to relatively backward medical conditions, and some patients did not receive timely and effective screening and treatment, which greatly reduced their quality of life.

On October 12 of the same year, Dongguan City's "Aid to Xinjiang and Restoration of Vision" project was launched, and Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Jinan University sent a team of medical experts composed of 2 doctors and 2 nurses to the Tumushuk General Hospital of the Third Division to establish the "Guantu Ophthalmology Specialist Alliance" with it to perform free vision restoration surgery for local cataract patients, and the three-year "Aid Xinjiang Restoration of Vision" activity was officially launched.

Up to now, Dongguan City's "Aid Xinjiang Restore" project has successfully implemented more than 380 cataract surgeries in Tumushuk City, the Third Division.

The Dongguan "Aid Xinjiang Restoration" project team not only "transfuses" health to the workers, but also "hematopoiesis" for border medical care. While bringing light to patients, the Dongguan "Aid Xinjiang Restoration" project team helps Tumushuk City of the Third Division to cultivate local ophthalmology professional and technical talents with solid surgical skills and professional capabilities. At the same time, the Third Division Tumushuk General Hospital selects 1 to 2 ophthalmic medical staff to Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital every year to study on the job, and the two places carry out online lectures, skills training, remote consultation, etc. through the "Guantu Ophthalmology Specialist Alliance", effectively driving the improvement of grassroots medical and health service capabilities.

"Our ultimate goal is to cultivate a local team of experts to meet the medical needs of patients with eye diseases in Tumushuk City, the Third Division, and improve the health index of people of all ethnic groups in multiple dimensions, levels and angles." Liu Fei, president of Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital, said.

As an important part of Xinjiang's aid work, medical and health aid to Xinjiang is a people's livelihood project that directly serves the grassroots workers and warms the hearts of the people. In recent years, Guangdong Province has focused on "the needs of the recipient areas" and "what Guangdong can do", and has played a good role in the combination of "group-style" medical aid to Xinjiang, so that workers of all ethnic groups can enjoy visible and tangible health benefits at their doorstep.

"In the next step, we will take the 'Guangdong New Bright Tour' as an opportunity to continue to strengthen the exchanges and integration between Guangdong and the military in the field of ophthalmology, and use practical actions to promote the people of the two places to hug each other like pomegranate seeds." Liu Huikun, a doctor from Guangdong Aid Xinjiang and director of the Department of Ophthalmology of Tumushuk General Hospital of the Third Division, said.
